The stunning Penallta House, home of Caerphilly County Council, features a five-storey, central rotunda with atrium glazing, flanked by a modern five-storey office space. The rotunda encompasses a prolate spheroid core, replicating the shape of a rugby ball, and a concourse replicating the curvature of a wave. Both were fabricated by Lusso Interiors using specialist acoustic drywall products and acoustic double glazed screens, Gyproc Gypwall Audio. Incorporated within the core, bespoke atrium glazing has been designed using a variation of the Avanti Accent double glazed system with custom made glass with 30minute fire ratings and up to 48dB acoustic performance.
The office area incorporates free-standing, full height, frameless double glazed meeting rooms designed using the Avanti Solare system with dry joint technology. Leaderflush Shapland high performance acoustic timber doorleaves and Satin Stainless Steel ironmongery provided a quality feel of the interior finishes. Meeting rooms were constructed utilising single glazed Avanti Solare, frameless, silicon jointed partitioning, full height glass door leaves with full height Opal Frost manifestation.
The building has won several architectural accolades, including the AIS Gold Award for Partitioning, bestowed upon Lusso Interiors Limited in 2008 for 'A truly outstanding installation of high acoustic performance and fire rated glazed partitioning'.
